What to Get The Women Who Has Everything? Umm…

Monday, July 12th, 2010

What do you get the girl that has everything? This is the age old question that doesn’t really mean anything but men love to say when describing their mates. It was a phrase that was used to describe rich women in English society who lived in luxury and literally had everything. Nowadays, men use this phrase when they don’t know what to get their women for their birthday or for Valentine’s day. They typically feel like they are stuck trying to find some new piece of women’s personalized jewelry for their mates while ignoring the obvious: there are more things to get a women that just a piece of jewelry. You are allowed to be creative.

Let me explain a second: women like creativity. For some reason men have been forced into the idea that their significant other only likes something that is shiny and attached to ring or necklace. I will admit that women are mostly to blame for this. We love jewelry and we love to show it off. But there is more to us then just shiny objects. As each women is different our ideas in what we like for gifts is also different.

Take me for example. I love sports. I’m a sports nut, always have been. I would much rather go to a baseball or hockey game then be taken to the fanciest restaurant in town. I like jewelry but I wouldn’t be upset if my husband picked taking me to a playoff game over a diamond necklace. My husband knows this too because I, gasp, told him. I feel like too many women out there leave it to their husbands to figure out what they want instead of telling them what they want. I had an ex-friend tell me once that she never tells her husband what she wants because after this long he should know. To me that’s rubbish, and it just seems like too big of a game to play.

As a woman you should be able to tell your husband what you want in a gift. It’s your responsibility because women are typically harder to shop for then men. This is because, throughout history, men have been getting the wrong idea, mostly thanks to women. If you want a gold ring fine, but if you don’t want a gold ring and you don’t tell your husband this you run of the risk of getting one. It’s not his fault, it’s yours. What do you get a woman who has everything? Your husband doesn’t know, so if you want something you might as well tell him.

Helping the Guys Out with Women’s Personalized Jewelry

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

If you’re a guy, I can only imagine that there is nothing more terrifying then having to buy your significant other a ring. I’m not just talking about an engagement ring, I’m talking about any type of ring. Even if the ring isn’t necessarily symbolizing commitment there is still a certain personalized touch that goes into picking the right ring for your special lady. What makes this big buy even tougher is that when it comes to giving hints on which rings to buy, women aren’t exactly known for being particular straightforward when their men.

Let me explain what I mean by that last statement. When they are buying them for themselves, a female knows exactly what they want in women’s personalized jewelry. We can walk up to a counter, try on a few things and be out in ten minutes with three new rings. When it comes to describing what we want to someone else- especially to a man who isn’t as jewelry-savvy as we are- we females aren’t exactly the best at sharing our information. In fact, I know quite a few women who get mad if their man asks them for jewelry advice. They expect them to know already know it and this proves that they aren’t paying attention to their women’s style. To that I say, umm, stop being so damn hard on your man, for gosh-sakes.

So if you’re reading this and you’re a man who has the herculean task of finding the perfect ring for your women, the first thing you must do is take a deep breath and stop worrying. Chances are you already know enough about your significant other to make a good, informed decision. Consider this for a second: does your girlfriend like flashy things? If you answered yes then you might want to go for a diamond or a big gem. If you answered no, a simple band with a small gem might be in order.

Another thing you can consider in your decision is where do you ultimately envision your girlfriend or wife wearing the ring? There is a huge difference between an everyday ring and a special occasion ring. Chances are a ring with a bunch of tiny jewels will only be worn during special occasions while a simpler ring with one big stone can be an everyday ring.

See, you’ve already narrowed it down significantly. Now you can pretty much just go off of taste and preference. Pick a stone that is meaningful to your significant other, a birthstone or favorite color. Chances are you already know what she wanted, you just had to figure it out for yourself.

Personalized Jewelry at the Oscars

Thursday, June 17th, 2010

Personalized jewelry
is a big business in Hollywood today. You can’t watch any celebrity based TV show or see any award show without seeing stars covered in personalized jewelry. May they be subtle rings or necklaces, or in your face “bling” encrusted with more diamonds then you might find in Buckingham Palace, celebrities love jewelry that match their personality.

One of the best examples of where to find personalized jewelry is while watching an Oscar telecast. The Oscars is the biggest night in Hollywood, and hence becomes the biggest night to show off not only what you are wearing, but also how important you are by wearing it.

The first thing you’ll notice at the Oscars is that for the women everything is encrusted with diamonds. Usually, this is done in a very tasteful way, but regardless diamonds are the most important accessory at the Oscars (besides George Clooney on your arm that is). Since most of the pieces that the popular actresses wear can cost up to (and some past) $1 million, most of the jewelry that you see at the Oscars are on loan. With that said, almost all of the pieces you see in magazine photo spreads are also loaned. The reason for this is because just like with fashion, jewelry makers fall over each other to get the hottest actress to wear their jewelry. If a piece is well received on the red carpet then the press will ask the actress what she is wearing and, bam, the best free advertisement a jewelry maker could ever get. Of course, the actress has to get it back at the end of the night (the makers aren’t crazy).

Some actresses do choose to wear their own personal selection of jewelry on the red carpet, but those pieces don’t seem to have the “wow” factor that most loaned jewelry does. For as many giant, blinged out pieces of jewelry you see on the red carpet, there are other subtle pieces from their own collection that actresses love to show off. For some actresses it’s all about the diamonds- big diamond ear rings with jewels as big of your thumbnail (yes, these are considered subtle on the red carpet). Other actresses like colored stones such as rubies and colored diamonds to adorn their hand, neck or ears.

Whether its borrowed 1 million dollar pieces or something from a personal selection, red carpet jewelry does not work on its own but instead has to be used in collaboration with their designer dress. Stylists know the secrets which is why on Oscar night they might be your best accessory of all.
